Then I learned I had stage 4 colon cancer. I thought my country music career and my life were over. The tumor in my intestine was bigger than an orange, but the cancer had spread beyond my large intestine to my liver, lymph nodes and diaphragm. The doctor told me I had had cancer for years.
But my body had other plans. What happened to alter that cancer treatment plan? Thanksgiving week of , I had another bout of severe abdominal pain. It felt like I had a knife in my gut.
I went to the doctor and scans were performed to see what was going on. I had to be treated immediately in the ER because of the seriousness of the disorder. That put a wrinkle in the plan of attack and sent my doctors into emergency mode. There were so many times I could have left this Earth. Did that emergency treatment include surgery?
