Lifeguards and park rangers sporadically patrol the beaches, but it is a swim-at-your-own-risk zone and a zone that can be risky indeed, especially with its notoriously powerful surf and strong currents. Installing or modifying pedestrian-friendly augmentations to the trail violates San Diego Municipal Code, so the Bares do their best to help keep trail-walkers safe while avoiding being cited.
Divided up into two section, the northern territory is owned by the state park, where nudity is still legal. The bikini- and swim trunks- optional stretch of the beach is still popular among nudists and plenty of locals. They would build a fire, play drums, dance, and then clean up when they were done. In the morning there would be no trace that they were there. Unfortunately, they got a bit out of hand when more people heard about them and the hosts eventually had to shut them down.

Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. The south end of the beach is owned by the city of San Diego and the state park. The beach was named after the Black family who once had a farm over-looking the beach. When they sold the land, it was subdivided into La Jolla Farms lots. There are many mansions that sit above the beach including the home where Jonas Salk once lived. This is also a prime surf spot, due to a submarine canyon funneling powerful swells.
This can also be a very dangerous spot for swimmers so be careful! You will oftentimes see people playing volleyball in the nude right upon entering the beach as a warm welcoming. The further north you go and the more secluded it becomes, the more you open yourself up to possible strange incidences.
Come here with an open mind and be courteous to those enjoying themselves in the buff. This is one of the most beautiful beaches we have in San Diego and great for surfing.
Check out the Mushroom House while you're out here! It's one of San Diego's most interesting architectural designs! This is one rough hike back up unless you're in great shape! Get ready to get a workout! So dreamy! Wow, thanks for sharing. Good memories. How do people or police feel about photoshoots there, if I brought a model to shoot some fineart nudes?
